Dear Members and Friends of Euro-ISME !
The 2nd annual Euro-ISME-conference will be held at the UK Defence Academy / JSCSC in Shrivenham on the 14th and 15th of June 2012.
This year’s conference theme will be "Military Ethics and the Responsibility to Protect: A Statement of Universal Values or Ethical Imperialism?"
This is expected to touch on multiple areas, including how technology is affecting military operations, the impact of the new age of austerity on assumptions and aspirations, crisis management interventions, common ethical approaches, what is included in our understanding of intervention, exploring how ethical issues away from home may be (or appear to be) different to those at home.
As always, papers will be welcomed on any theme related to military or defence ethics in addition to this broad theme.
For further information about the aims and objectives of Euro ISME, conference details, registration form and updates as the conference organisation develops, please refer to
If you would like to present a paper, please submit a proposal, including at least a half page outline, to admin@euroisme.org. Priority will be given to fully developed/completed papers. To maximise the time available for discussion, it is expected that most papers will be limited to 20 minutes length. The paper submission deadline will be the 15th of April 2012.
If there is sufficient interest, a trip will be organised before the conference on the 13th June to the Royal Navy Dockyard at Portsmouth to visit Admiral Nelson’s famous flagship, HMS Victory, flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar 1805. Transport will leave from the Defence Academy at 12.30 hrs on Wednesday 13th June, returning for dinner in the evening.
For those planning to attend Euro ISME 2012, the registration form must be completed and returned NOT LATER THAN 18 May 2012 to Mrs Beverly Oliver, DEFENCE STUDIES DEPARTMENT, JSCSC, SHRIVENHAM, SWINDON, SN6 8TS (01793 788177) boliver.jscsc@da.mod.uk
Looking forward to your contributions and hoping to meet you at Shrivenham
Sincerely yours
