The main objective is to enable the members of the Alliance to discuss issues of security and defense, as well as on ways of promoting a new "Consciousness of Security and Defense" near the citizens, which allows them to better understand the risks and opportunities inherent in international relations within a globalizing world and to participate actively in the definition of conditions to ensure the stability of international relations and peace.
Moreover, its action is intended to promote a certain idea of the ethical foundations of the military profession and of the relationship between military and civilians within democratic societies or in within countries in process of democratization.
Through its network and its manifestations, the Alliance wants to influence not only on the acceptance, by public opinion, of the new role of military in international peacekeeping and in managing security challenges and multifaceted crises. It also seeks to weigh on decisions and developments within military organizations at both national (transformation of armed forces) and international level (UN, NATO, European Union, other regional military alliances), including information policy and philosophical foundations for education and behavior of military in operations.
(Re)Definition of the role of the military as an integral part of society, is a key challenge in this era where we have just come out (or where we still know) use of many forms of violence, more or less built into systems, which is significant for the relations existing in many countries between those who own the power and normal citizens.
In a shorter term, the network aims to save and to maintain close relationships between former participants of the various symposia and seminars, organized by the Charles Leopold Mayer Fondation, as well as of meetings sponsored by partners and other organizations, bringing together experts from all faculties under the theme of security policy and peace building.
This internet site shall become a platform for expression and exchange of ideas and positions on various topics affecting security and stability. The network is not a closed shop, accepting only the military. In the contrary: it is open to experts from all socio-professional categories (academics, journalists, political etc.) with a connotation to "security", "education" or "international relations".
